Checking Out the Rule Book
My reading today began in Psalm 96, and on that page I had previously journaled “Joy to the World” from Psalm 98. Written beside the art was the name of Preacher and hymn writer, Isaac Watts who wrote that song. Wondering why I had written that there (because I couldn’t recall) I began to research his story. Feeling somewhat guilty that I was googling a man of the world rather than delving into the depth of God’s word. But lo and behold… my God had purpose.
I cannot seem to get my mind off the question “At what point did morals walk out on public education.” Or were they ran out? I’m broken for our children. I have become viewed as somewhat of a community rebel because I dare question why morality should have anything to do with public education or believe that the faith of Christianity should be honored as is the theology of the satanic, and the worst theory of all is that we should expect moral behaviors from those teaching our children.
Isaac Watts was born in 1748 in England. He was a minister, hymn writer, theologian and logician. I didn’t even know there was such a thing as a logician. He is credited for writing around 750 hymns including some of my favorites “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross” and “Joy to the World,” and authored a textbook titled simply “Logick.” Proving that his intellect was far, far greater than my own, that textbook had a second title of “The Right Use of Reason in the Enquiry After Truth With a Variety of Rules to Guard Against Error in the Affairs of Religion and Human Life, as well as in the Sciences.” That cracked me up. I’m not sure how it would do in Amazon sales with that title. It was first published in 1724, and it was printed in twenty editions.
Enough of the back history, let’s get back to my question about morality. Watts was a preacher who thought it was his responsibility to help the world of secular education. He wasn’t turned away, although he was turned away by some religions because he was a nonconformist. I’d like to view myself in that category. I do not conform to many of the ideologies in the churches, because many of them have nothing to do with scripture. We will save that argument for another day. Twenty editions of that book became published and used in the schools as well as a sequel, “The Improvement of the Mind.”
I must confess I merely skimmed the book when I downloaded it on Kindle this morning, but of what I read, I wish it would be adopted again. It won’t… there is far too much scripture in it. The following paragraph is from the introduction to the book. A refreshing look at logic!
Many truths have depth and difficulty to them. Our reason has a hard time seeing far into things at once, and understanding them Many things can appear disguised, under false colours, and are not as they appear. Sun appears flat, moon appears big as the sun, rainbows, mirages Our intellectual powers need assistance because they are frail and fallible in our present state. We are deceived by our senses, imaginations, passions and appetites, authority of men, education and custom, etc.
He told that lie so many times that he’s starting to believe it himself; he’s seeing what he wants to see. Ist Cor. 3:18-20 “Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. And again, the Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.”
I view the wisdom of public education as vanity above all vanities. As a whole, not individually, there are some amazing teachers in public Schools. But there are some, who, if those who hired them had any logic at all, they’d have never hired them. They are indeed taken in their own craftiness and believe that they are smarter than God. I won’t even bring in the political correctness for which I disagree, but let’s just talk about logic.
When Covid occurred we were told again and again that logic played no part in it and we should listen to the educated experts, who removed our children from the schools and set them two years behind. Discussions of race taught our children that “white people cannot criticize Black Lives Matter because they don’t understand what it means to be black.” Especially if you were from a 98% white community (as we are). We could not point out the logic that had nothing to do with color in that the leaders of that organization misused donated funds to buy lavish homes and much of their agenda had nothing to do with helping black families but rather promoted a very liberal political agenda. Where was our logic?
And the missing logic continues when we allow public education to define the rights of parents by telling them, they don’t have any rights. We then send our children into an all but bankrupt of morals academy. Teachers and children can talk like sailors. Teachers and Counselors can coach your child into making unbiblical and un-logical decisions without so much as a note home saying by the way, Tommy now goes by Susie. Our children are not ever to question authority, unless of course that child identifies as something covered by political correctness or has an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) which means that they can pretty much do anything they want, and your child has to deal with it alone. Because we’re not allowed to talk about it. And before anyone comes after to me on the IEP issue, I have grandchildren with IEP’s. I understand the need. I just don’t understand the logic that those with an IEP are protected, but those without are not.
The same is true in the workforce, and is only getting worse because those reared in a moral bankrupt society are now in charge of our workplaces. And the sad part is, it’s making its way into churches. A congregation who would rather cater to the world than live by biblical principles is no longer a church. It’s a club making its own rules. It is why almost every church in America is down to a skeleton crew because the people didn’t fight for what’s right in the eyes of God. They cowered to society.
I don’t win friends with this kind of post. But I hope and pray, and will continue to stand on my soap box and proclaim that the Word of God is not up for debate in a liberal society. As Christians we should stand on what God said. I’m not the intellect equal or anywhere close to Isaac Watts. But I praise my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that He gave me the Word of God and common sense enough to accept His truth as fact.
To the teachers with morals, common sense and faith in Christ. I applaud you and pray for you that you continue unscathed by the system. To all others, as a child of God I love you. But I will not applaud you or anyone who does not know Christ. Because without Him, the Word of God is clear. Hell awaits.
The Jesus Chick is a ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ. Not a club. I play by His rules.
