God Thinks You’re Superhero Material
One of the many reasons I started the Ridgeview News site was to give a voice to a community that had been squelched for a century. To take back the narrative from the oppressors who believe it’s their right to step on the “little people” as they climb a ladder that barely takes them out of the basement of life. When I used to work in the courthouse as a Magistrate Assistant, Magistrate Clerk and later Circuit Clerk Deputy, I would day dream about being full time ministry. All I really wanted to do in life was serve God in full time ministry. There were days I wanted to get me a milk crate and go out on the porch of the courthouse and just preach! But they frowned on State Employees doing that.
Scroll forward to my frustration with the world and the creation of the Ridgeview News.
Ministry, per se, took a back seat once again as I navigated the murky waters of journalism and tried to make people believe I warranted their attention and had worthy topics to discuss. I have often felt like a failure at that too, because once again I just wanted to stand on a milk crate and preach the gospel. Oh, we (myself and several others in the community) have made a difference. We are rising above the evil that desires us to be sifted like wheat by shining the light on those who governed in the shadows with actions unknown to the public. We’re making it very public. But what about my ministry?
Most days my Ministry is my Mother. Staying with her, making her feel safe. Making sure she has three meals a day and a thinly sliced apple every evening as we watch and rewatch 24 episodes of Reba every … single … day. Today I read Psalm 80 through 83 and ran across these nuggets of joy in the 82nd chapter
Psalm 82:3-4 KJV
Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. [4] Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.
That’s God’s instruction to His children. He has the utmost of faith in us!
Oh how encouraged I was by those words. I wanted to get me a cape and a pair of tights… and then I thought of what I’d look like and determined that my flannel pajama pants would be fine this morning. But I still believe I can do what God has asked me to do. And while I may not be on a milk crate on the streets of Grantsville preaching the Gospel, my cyber milk crate reaches even further. And I won’t look quite as ridiculous.
Our three point message for today:
- Defend
- Do Justice
- Deliver
God has assigned us those three tasks. Who you defend and how you defend will no doubt look different than how I do it. But there is someone who needs you to step up on their behalf.
There is someone who has felt as if justice will never happen on their behalf. You may be the one they’re waiting for.
Deliverance can take on many forms, but the greatest deliverance is that of Jesus Christ. If you do nothing else today, tell someone about His saving grace. Share your testimony of what the Lord has done for you. I’d love to hear it! Send me a message and encourage my soul!
You are God’s superhero, just like those in the book of Hebrews Chapter 11, God is writing down the work we’re doing and when we get to Heaven our list will be there. Gloraaaay I have done written myself happy again.
If you have never came to know Jesus Christ as your Savior, send me a message and I will gladly and with great joy introduce you to the God of Heaven.
Shari, The Jesus Chick
